This simple picture gives a clear indication of our spiritual situation:

Us and God together

God created us in His own image - Genesis 1:27

Sin enters the world
All of us have sinned and fallen short of God's glory.    - Romans 3:23 

Sin separates us from God

Sin pays off with death. But God's gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord.    - Romans 6:23 

Jesus comes

God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.                                         --  John 3:16 

But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.                                         -- Romans 5:8 

Jesus bridges the gap

But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away. 
                                        -- 1 John 1:9 

Us and God together

So you will be saved, if you honestly say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death.  God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others. 

                            -- Romans 10:9-10 

To be saved pray something like :

"Dear God, I know you love me and Jesus died for my sin.  I want you to forgive me of the sin in my life.  I invite you into my life.  In Jesus name.  Amen."
