Text Box: Heart to Heart
Worship, the first of Twelve Stones of Remembrance. In April 1909, less than four years after Long Beach was incorporated as a city, a small group of Baptists gathered together for the purpose of organizing a church in their community. Dr. W. C. Grace led the worship service. He preached an organizational sermon and those present were invited to commit themselves to start a new church. That day First Baptist Church was formally established with 21 charter members. Our beginning as a church finds its roots in worship; worship of the true and living God who has the power to transform lives and homes and communities from ruin to beauty.
A Good Read on Worship. Many of you asked me for the quotes on True Worship that I shared in closing my sermon this past Sunday. They were only a few of the opening statements found in True Worship by David Whitcomb and Mark Ward. Here are the selected quotes on true worship:
1. True worship is characterized by humility before God.
2. True worship requires a broken heart that has repented from sin.
3. True worship requires submission of your will to God.
4. True worship bows before the God who is Creator and Sustainer of all things.
5. True worship bows before the Lamb who has redeemed us from condemnation.
6. True worship is acceptable to God because it come from a righteous heart.
7. True worship trusts God and desires His way rather than our own way.
8. True worship requires faith that obeys God and trusts His Word.
9. True worship pleases God because it is sacrificial.
10. True worship gives all glory to God.
11. True worship exalts God for His glory.
12. True worship boasts in Christ alone and not in human achievements.
13. True worship praises God for His righteous judgment against sin.
14. True worship joyously anticipates the imminent return of Christ.
15. True worship flows from obedience and leads to faithful service.
At the heart of worship is the heart. People who have a genuine love and heart for God join together to worship the God they love. True worship of the true and living God melts away indifference and self-serving motives leaving one humbly bowed before the only true God who is Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer. True worship brings believers into the fellowship of fellow worshippers. Confession of sin, repentance, prayer, praise through song and testimony, celebration of God’s glory, commitment of life and resources to His world mission, public profession of faith in Christ, exalting God’s righteousness and holiness and much more is part of our worship experience as children of God.
Worship, Work, and Play. Someone has observed that most middleclass Americans tend to:
          Worship their work,
          Work at their play, and
          Play at their worship.
That which we worship, we serve; and that which we serve, we will give our all - heart, soul, mind and body.
See you Sunday in worship! -Bro. LaRue

Text Box: Hey Youth,
Remember that we will be having student council nominations this Sunday. Be ready to nominate two students from each grade to represent you on the council. This is a really good way to have your ideas heard for things like Nite Life, work events, community service and activities. We will have our first meeting in May so we can gear up for summer.
Students, our next big event will be April 19th at 5:00 pm at the annex. We will board the vans and go to Hattiesburg for the Switchfoot concert. Hope to see you then. The cost is $15 and must be paid no later that the 13th.
The workday for this month will also be on the 19th. We will meet at the annex at 8:30 to leave for the work. Remember to wear old clothes and be ready to get dirty.
I was real impressed with the outreach that you guys participated in the last few months. I hope that you don’t just let it expire. Now is the time to ramp it up for summer. We have plenty of postcards if you need them or, if you prefer the phone call method, use it. Just keep it up. You will be amazed at how God will bless your youth group. Don’t forget to invite your friends, too.
   Have a great weekend,
   Scott
